PUDUCHERRY: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for questioning the Centre for not having an exclusive ministry for fishermen.
Modi, who was speaking at a public meeting in Puducherry, said Congress leaders would win gold, silver and bronze medals for telling lies. Modi said while the colonial rulers’ policy was to divide and rule the Congress’s policy is to divide, lie and rule.
Modi said the present NDA government set up the fisheries ministry in 2019. He said the government increased the ministry’s budget by 80% this year.

New Delhi: Former Delhi Police commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi may be appointed as the next Puducherry Lt governor, a report said on Wednesday. The latest development comes after the Union Cabinet today approved a proposal to impose President s Rule in Puducherry.
As per IANS report, Bassi is being considered for the post of Lt Governor of Puducherry but the Centre is bit wary . The ex-Delhi Police chief s five-year tenure at the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will end on February 28.
Puducherry is headed for the President s Rule as the opposition AIADMK has decided not to stake claim to form the government after the Congress-DMK government led by V Narayanasamy fell on Monday.

Puducherry on Monday became the second Congress government to fall within 365 days after the Kamal Nath-led Madhya Pradesh government fell in March last year.
It is the third government if coalition government of Karnataka is counted which had support of the Congress. The Congress has shrunk to just three states Punjab, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. In Jharkhand and Maharashtra it is in coalition.
The Congress leaders in New Delhi assert that the fall of Puducherry government will enhance their electoral prospects as it will negate the anti-incumbency of the Narayansamy government and make Congress stronger in the state.
