UPDATED - Pursuit ends with driver in custody and passenger detained

A high-speed pursuit Wednesday morning ended with a driver in custody and a passenger briefly detained. It happened at about 8:30 when a state trooper reported that he was chasing a vehicle at about 110 miles per hour westbound on Farm to Market 363 in Newton County and was headed towards the north side of Kirbyville. Department of Public Safety Sergeant Stephanie Davis later said that it all started when the trooper tried to stop a 2006 Toyota SUV with an expired registration sticker. Davis said the driver turned onto County Road 3066 and then jumped out and fled on foot. He was quickly captured and arrested.

Woman critically injured in Friday morning crash

A Newton County woman was critically injured in a Friday morning accident in the Farrsville Community. The tw0-vehicle accident occurred shortly before 8:00 on State Highway 63, about 6 miles west of Burkeville. According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Stephanie Davis, 74-year-old Gloria Evans was leaving a private driveway when her 2015 Mazda passenger vehicle was struck on the driver side by a 2011 Dodge passenger vehicle, driven by 30-year-old Kynishia Roberts, also of Burkeville. Evans was flown from the scene to a hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana, while Roberts and her 6-month-old baby were transported by ambulance to Jasper Memorial Hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
