The accused officer, Joseph Tuminelli, was charged with third-degree aggravated assault, stalking and harassment, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office. Mayor Andre Sayegh on Saturday confirmed Tuminelli’s unpaid suspension from his $33,873 city job. Paterson Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale said the city would wait for the prosecutor’s office to complete its investigation of the domestic violence case before taking any further action on Tuminelli’s employment.

Detectives Mohammad Bashir and Yamil Pimienta, responding to a report of a group assaulting two victims, approached a group of of four on the corner of Jefferson and North 5th Street, city Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale said. As they got out of their car, the detectives saw one hand a plastic bag to another and tell him to run. The boy, 17, tossed the bag as he ran through rear yards on North 4th Street before Detectives Mustafa Dombayci and Suquan Gary nabbed him on North 3rd Street, Speziale said.

The operation, which also yielded nearly $33,000 in suspected drug proceeds, also led to three arrests. According to a statement by Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale, an investigation into the illegal narcotics sales began in January following complaints from concerned residents in the area.  Surveillance undertaken as part of the investigation in early February led to the discovery of a suspected drug dealer, later identified as Thomas William, participating in drug transactions with various buyers, including on Tuesday when he is said to have engaged in a hand-to-hand transaction with Kevin G. Brennan of Pearl River, NY.

Zellie Thomas, leader of the Paterson BLM movement, said the “solidarity rally” and distribution of 100 free meals are designed to “show appreciation for first responders and front-line workers” during the pandemic. He said the event stemmed from a suggestion by the owners of a local Jamaican restaurant, Mamma’s Kitchen, which has been providing BLM discounted meals for senior citizens.

Among three accused dealers who used the apartment to store drugs for a nonstop walk-up business on Hamilton Avenue were Xavier Fulmore, 25, and Jamere Williams, 27, Public Safety Director Jerry Speziale said. Fulmore had only just been released from state prison three months ago Thursday after serving three separate stretches covering three combined years, records show. Williams, meanwhile, had been released in October after serving more than two years for drug and conspiracy convictions.
