PM Modi took several important decisions on Monday, including allowing the deployment of final-year MBBS students for teleconsultations and other functions; utilising medical interns and BSc nurses for Covid duty and incentivising medics completing 100 days of service in fighting the disease with priority in government jobs.
States and UTs have been asked to consider the latest incentives to maximise manpower availability.
Doctors preparing for postgraduation entrance tests, final-year medical students, hospital interns and BSc-qualified nurses can be pressed into service in the fight against the record Covid-19 surge.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a high level Covid-19 review meeting today decided to allow deployment of medical interns in Covid management duties under the supervision of their faculty, as part of the internship rotation. The services of final year MBBS students can be utilised for providing services like tele-consultation and monitoring of mild Covid cases after due orientation by and under supervision of faculty, the government release mentioned. The following service of the MBBS students will reduce the workload on existing doctors engaged in Covid duty, it added.Â

New Delhi [India], May 3 (ANI): The Centre on Monday announced that National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Exam 2021 has been postponed for at least four months in a bid to provide adequate human resources for responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, according to an official statement by the Prime Minister s office (PMO).
