Springfield addresses nuisance properties

SPRINGFIELD The Springfield Board of Trustees took action April 27 on nuisance properties at 529 James Avenue, 1025 Onondago Trail and 1840 Orchard Trail. Trustee Dean Young stated each of the property owners has been contacted about removing items “including garbage, refuse and other debris as outlined in the township resolution dealing with nuisances.”

Supreme Court rules against Plain Township in public records case PLAIN TWP. – The Ohio Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that invoices for Plain Township s legal services are public records, regardless of whom keeps the records. The township was ordered to hand over invoices for its legal services, pay $1,000 in statutory damages and pay court fees to Steven Armatas. He initially requested invoices in December 2018 related to legal matters involving himself and the township, according to the court s opinion.   The township administrator acknowledged Armatas request but for a period of many months, Armatas received neither access to the records nor a written denial of his request, according to the court. 

Uhrichsville and service department employee settle records case

UHRICHSVILLE The city and Council President Robert Cottrell have settled a lawsuit over public records brought by a city service department employee. The Ohio Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the case at the request of the Kent attorney who represented Jeffrey D. Morris in the mandamus action. He had sought to have the state high court order Cottrell and the city to give him certain documents. The case was resolved through mediation, according to Service Director Belle Everett. Drew Piersall of the Columbus law firm Zashin Rich LLC represented the city. Morris and his counsel have agreed that all requested documents have been provided by the city, Everett wrote in an email message to The Times-Reporter. The city provided hundreds of pages of documents, photos and emails to Mr. Morris and his legal counsel.
