Supreme Court rules against Plain Township in public records case
PLAIN TWP. – The Ohio Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that invoices for Plain Township's legal services are public records, regardless of whom keeps the records.
The township was ordered to hand over invoices for its legal services, pay $1,000 in statutory damages and pay court fees to Steven Armatas. He initially requested invoices in December 2018 related to legal matters involving himself and the township, according to the court's opinion.
The township administrator acknowledged Armatas' request "but for a period of many months, Armatas received neither access to the records nor a written denial of his request," according to the court.
