Doctors fear oxygen shortage in K-P
Health department to ensure availability at hospitals
PESHAWAR:
The Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) has raised fears of a looming shortage of oxygen in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) due to the rapid spread of Covid-19 infections and demanded that a Covid emergency be declared immediately.
The association also demanded an inquiry into the death of eight patients at Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) due to lack of facilities in the past few weeks.
PDA urged the government to take steps to ensure uninterrupted supply of oxygen as its demand has increased five-fold in recent days and is still going up.

The number of casualties of the doctors from COVID-19 has surged to 62 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Third wave of coronavirus has claimed life of another doctor in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday, raising the number of casualties of the doctors from COVID-19 to 62 in the province, Dunya News reported.
According to Provincial Doctors Association, Doctor John was admitted in the ICU ward of a hospital in provincial capital Peshawar and was on ventilator from past two weeks.
The association further revealed that so far the deadly virus has claimed lives of at least 62 doctors in the province.

Around 96 health workers have lost their lives to Covid-19 in Khyber-Pakthunkhwa (K-P) so far and the number is rapidly increasing after the start of the third wave of the infection.
Around 61 doctors have died of Covid-19 infection followed by 15 paramedics, seven nurses, and 13 other staff including laboratory technicians, drivers, lab assistants and ward attendants.
Talking to The Express Tribune Information Secretary of the Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) Dr Saleem said that the doctors and other health workers were at the forefront of handling the Covid-19 crisis and 96 of them have been killed in the pandemic but it was unfortunate that still the families of the deceased doctors were waiting for the payment of compensation package from the government.

PESHAWAR: Two more doctors and a nurse lost their lives to the coronavirus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday, taking the death toll of doctors, who have died of the viral infection in the province, to 61.
The two doctors, who have died of the coronavirus, were identified as Dr Abdul Kabir and Dr Khair Mohammad Burki.
According to the Provincial Doctors Association (PDA), a major organisation of the doctors serving in the public sector hospitals, Dr Abdul Kabir was the first general surgeon in Swat.
He tested positive for the coronavirus and was admitted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad after developing complications.

PESHAWAR/ISLAMABAD: Covid-19 has claimed the lives of a doctor and nurse as Pakistan registered 137 more virus-related fatalities and 5,445 infections in the 24 hours leading to Tuesday amid a third wave surge.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Provincial Doctors Association identified the two healthcare workers as Dr Khair Mohammad Burki and nurse Nazia Sahiba. Dr Burki was in intensive care at a private hospital in Peshawar Hospital for several days before losing his life late Monday.
Sahiba, a senior nursing officer of the Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar, was on ventilator as well. After their deaths, the death toll of healthcare workers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa rose to 61. A total of 151 have died across Pakistan since the pandemic began.
