This culminated today in a swift, stunning announcement from this citys top prosecutor declaring that the death of freddie gray amounted to murder and manslaughter. And charging Six Baltimore Police officers in connection with his death. States attorney Marilyn Mosby saying even grays arrest was illegal. The streets of baltimore. Some of the people in this town are celebrating. Theyre shouting that justice is winning. Today, 19 days after police tossed freddie gray in the back of that police van, the Baltimore City states attorney shocked the citizens of this city say she has found probable cause to charge Six Police Officers in the death of 25yearold freddie gray saying his arrest was illegal, and his death was a homicide. States attorney Marilyn Mosby saying four of the six officers will be charged with manslaughter among other charges, but the driver of the van, officer caesar goodson, faces the most serious, the most damning. He stands accused of seconddegree murder. Others say this move by the prosecutor may have been rushed and the facts do not bear out what shes charged. Said the arrest of freddie gray was illegal and what happened to him in Police Custody was murder. Six officers are under arrest tonight on criminal charges; the most serious, murder, was filed against caesar goodson, the driver of the police van in which gray allegedly suffered fatal injuries. He could get 30 years. Charges against the other five officers include involuntary manslaughter, assault and false imprisonment. They were brought here to central booking in downtown baltimore. In announcing the charges today, the prosecutor repeatedly scolded the six officers for failing to do enough to save a dying man. Freddie grays family and city leaders are urging for calm during todays marches. Rallies are planned across the country today. In fact from los angeles, and to the east coast. We do know that they did surrender without incident. Facing their charges. Many of them have posted bond that was anywhere between 200 and 300,000. What do we no about their potential whereabouts or even their next moves . Fred so of course were at the intersection where there is a Police Presence. But nothing like what we saw in the past few days. As far as the officers go. As you know this is a make up of five men and one woman. We know that not only did they post bond but the mayor called for
