With DC Comics rearranging its imprint style a bit over the last few years, the character of
John Constantine, Hellblazer, had gotten some renewed attention with a darker series aimed at more mature audiences than the general audience’s version we’d been seeing for awhile. The character is also currently on
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow as played by Matt Ryan, who brought the character tolife originally in the 2014 NBC series
Constantine.
Justice League Dark film or a
Constantine feature film reboot but things never felt settled on any of these projects. Now, Deadline is reporting that HBO Max is working with Bad Robot to developed a series for the service with Guy Bolton on board to write. It’s looking to go back to the younger days of the character as he started to really get into some problems with magic, but allowing for a more outgoing and lively interpretation of the character as well. Which means it won’t feature Matt Ryan.
