WISCONSIN RAPIDS - The closing of the Verso Mill, traffic jams at railroads and economic growth are some of the key issues for District 1 City Council candidates.
Ryan Austin and Kyle Finup will face off on April 6 s nonpartisan general election. Incumbent Joe Zurfluh decided to not seek re-election this year. The race will appear on ballots, along with the race for state superintendent of public instruction.

Captain Dianna Wolfson took the helm Friday as the 110th commander of Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY) and first female leader in its 253-year history.
Wolfson also holds the distinction of becoming the first female commander of any of the nation’s four public shipyards when she assumed command in June 2019 of Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF).
