The california Highway Patrol confirmed to us moments ago Governor Newsom is sending chp officers to the city as it deals with growing crime concerns. The mayor and Police Department requested the help with traffic enforcement. Officers will focus on sideshows, auto thefts, and freeway shootings. One of the most recent shootings on 580 last month left an 8yearold little boy in grave condition. So the state right now is committing six chp officers and a sergeant to oakland along with a 1. 2 million loan for automated license plate readers. So its unclear how many that will buy or where theyll be installed.
