Everyone in a six block radius was evacuated including people on part of giant highway, 11th street and palmer avenue. People are hoping for better news this morning. In the last hour we heard from officials on the response. Justin andrews is live at the scene. You heard them speak. What was the Hazardous Material . Reporter that is something they are trying to uncover, amanda. Crews have to move methodically because of the chemicals. They discover the chemicals in a backyard shed. The goal is to make sure people are in their homes by the end of the day today, but that pretends on the progress the hazmat teams can make. They are still sorting through this. We are talking hundreds of boxes and several types of chemicals , according to authorities. In the last hour, authorities told us the homeowner passed away a while ago, talking potentially months ago. His brother was going the property and founders materials in that backyard shed on stanton avenue. Not just a few chemicals, were talking hundreds. The brother instantly called emergency crews. Hazmat teams arrived and with their swift action they labeled this is a major hazmat incident, according to investigators and authorities. But they dont know exactly what all of this chemicals are. They did say there is some explosive chemicals and some are light and motion sensitive. They have to move methodically. We interviewed crews and they believe the chemicals may have been and said have been inside the shed for years. They have to move methodically and slowly because they do not know and a lot of the containers were not labeled. They dont know exactly what theyre working with. The material due to its very nature, what we consider explosive could be a chemical reaction. Reporter crews are working on removing those chemicals and also testing them. And removing them from this area. The process could be a pretty lengthy one. The goal is to make sure the people who were evacuated yesterday can come back in their homes by the end of the day today. That depends on how the process goes, when it comes to testing and removing all of this chemicals they found inside that backyard shed. I know a lot of people just want to come home. But they want to make sure it is safe. Thank you. Governor gavin newsom is sending chp officers into oakland after the mayor and opd asked for help to control crime. Oakland robberies are up 22 compared to last year and now even pg e crews are getting hit. They are being targeted mainly for their tools and personal items like cell phones and wallets. The president of the Oakland Police Officers Association told us there is up to eight offduty officers assigned to pg e each day. We are in a situation when folks dont have basic utilities because we are unable to provide an umbrella of protection for pg e to fix a problem. The should be a clarion call to city officials that we have significant challenges around the book safety at all times. A spokesperson from the union that represents pg e workers says oakland is the only city where they do this, they may hire officers and other cities including San Francisco and richmond. C. Outside of the federal courthouse. We saw the Police Barrier behind me go up overnight and i have seen Law Enforcement and k9 units patrolling the area. Making sure that everything stay safe. The former president faces four new criminal charges and he is expected to make his First Court Appearance at 4 00 this afternoon. With the other cases we have seen that trump is involved in, he has not had restrictions on traveling or campaigning. Cannot change with this case . Reporter we will keep a close eye on that. What i know is if they are trained to work at dennys, they cannot work year. If they are trained to work here, they can work anywhere.
