Alspec framing promotes passive cooling and ventilation at new college sports centre

Various Alspec door and window framing products were specified for the new Faith Lutheran College Sports Centre in the rural community of Plainlands in Queensland’s southeast. A much-needed multipurpose sports and meeting facility for the 700 students at this growing Queensland College, which had outgrown its existing gathering spaces, the new sports centre designed by Fulton Trotter Architects is spacious enough to accommodate the entire school for graduation and presentation ceremonies. Known as the Faith Sports Centre, the facility will be used for physical education classes as well as dance, theatre and meetings. The development comprises a north and south wing, each with flexible internal spaces, and connected with a covered outdoor space. Adjacent rooms include fitness and weights training, classroom environments and a feature rock climbing wall.

ProGlide sliding doors perfectly complement curved balconies at luxury apartments

ProGlide High Performance sliding doors from Alspec were adapted to fit the curved balconies of Bombora Apartments in Cronulla, NSW. A five-level residential complex located just one street from the popular Cronulla Beach, 30km south of Sydney, Bombora Apartments, designed by Vic Lake Architects, comprise two towers connected by a central lobby. The ovoidal forms of the structure were an architectural response to the shape of the site, which was narrower to the south and wider to the north. To bring the architects’ vision to life in these luxury apartments, Alspec’s ProGlide High Performance sliding doors were cleverly adapted to a curved form to suit the development’s uniquely shaped balconies.

Alspec framing on floor-to-ceiling windows open up views at restored heritage building

The Adina Apartment Hotel in Brisbane, QLD is a luxury hotel that features modern comforts while preserving the elegance of the original heritage building. Located on George Street, the 100-year-old heritage building, which previously housed the Queensland Government Savings Bank, was given a new lease of life with modern-day construction materials along with interior restoration and the addition of five new upper levels helping the transformation into a contemporary hotel. An important aspect of the successful renovation of the heritage property is the way the additional levels have been given their own identity while referencing the heritage of the 1920s building below. The project, designed by TKD Architects, drew inspiration from the existing Art Deco period features, while taking the opportunity to add modern necessities such as larger windows and balconies to allow guests to maximise their enjoyment of the city and river views.
