New Delhi, May 6 : The eight-member Indian recurve archery team, including four in the women s category, will not compete in the Lausanne World Cup starting May 17 due to failure to get visas. The European nations are denying visas due to the second wave of Covid-19 in India. Even if we travel, there is a strict 10-day quarantine rule in Switzerland. With time running out, the best option was to skip the competition and focus on the Paris edition of the World Cup in June, which is also an Olympic qualifying competition, Pramod Chandurkar, secretary general of Archery Association of India (AAI), told IANS.

Bengaluru, Apr 26 (IANS): The Indian hockey team s recent tour of Argentina and the Europe tour in February, where they played Germany and Great Britain, has provided the side a fresh perspective in training, according to young midfielder Vivek Sagar Prasad.
The Manpreet Singh-led India team won both the FIH Pro Hockey League games against Olympic champions Argentina besides defeating them in two practice games.
Earlier this year, the team registered a 6-1 win and a 1-1 draw against powerhouse Germany, which was followed by a win and a draw against Britain.

Javelin throwers Turkey trip postponed due to Covid

New Delhi, April 22 : The exposure-cum-training programme of the first batch of the Indian javelin throwing team to Turkey has been postponed due to new quarantine rules for the Indians, a source from the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) confirmed.
The team included Olympic-bound thrower Shivpal Singh and foreign coach Uwe Hohn.
Star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra and Singh are the two Indians to have qualified for the Tokyo Olympics starting July 23.
The coach and the athlete were supposed to leave for Turkey on Thursday but a surge in Covid-19 cases in the country has put more restrictions on Indians travelling abroad.

Former Wairarapa College student Megan Hull says there’s a lot of hard work ahead before her place in the Black Sticks women’s team for the Tokyo Olympics is confirmed.
The 31-cap international was one of 25 women named last week to prepare for the postponed games, with the squad to be whittled down to 16 for the Olympic tournament.
“It’s just the squad, and they must have said ‘we’ll give this battler another go’, or something like that,” Hull said.
