you know? i made the best of it here. taryn stout-barstow has made the best of her 90 days at santa rita as well. i m really happy with the results here at the santa rita jail. we have good stuff going on. stout-barstow was convicted of child endangerment after police found her acting erratically at an electronics store with her 6-year-old son in tow. before jail, stout-barstow worked as a stripper, whose stage name was nicki. i actually started out when i was 17 in alaska, dancing. stripping, actually. whatever. she says one of her tattoos earned her extra tips. that bottom one says doggy style. makes you more money at the club. makeup played a big role in converting stout-barstow into nicki. now she only has access to it in her cosmetology class. but back at her bunk, she makes due with the things she is allowed to have.
it s santa rita pretty and that s all that matters, right? but not everyone in the housing unit is as welcoming as stout-barstow. just a few bunks down, summer payne, serving a one-year sentence for petty theft, doesn t have much tolerance for the other end of the unit. they go home in 7 to 14 days. they re not doing real time. we re sitting here doing real time, pushing real weight, pushing real stuff on the streets. this is the penitentiary here. she s been up here like seven, eight months. she s not going home until october. 12 months. you feel me? real time in county jail. not that playland, and my best friend applications and [ bleep ] like that. we don t get down like that in the town or in alameda county. i don t even know where she s from. that s why i would roll them up and put them down there. that ain t play jail. we in real jail and we want to go home. that takes some [ bleep ] balls.
markert, jail is something completely new. i ve never been to jail. i ve never been to juvenile hall. driving here was probably the longest drive and walking in, just having people look at me, just made me uncomfortable and i just felt like dirty in a way. it was very scary. i was i can t stop crying. i ve never been in this kind of trouble before, so it s new and i don t like it. markert was just arrested at her high school and charged with drug possession. she has yet to enter a plea. i have been using drugs since my freshman year, so for about four years and before it was just weed, marijuana, and then
