The Class of 2021 will see a bit more normalcy to their graduation ceremonies this spring, but COVID-19 restrictions will still be in play for some of the larger school districts.
ATLANTA, Ga. â Innovation Academy in downtown Alpharetta will open in August with every available seat filled, and a host of others on a wait list in the event of a vacancy.
The North Fulton regionâs newest high school will enroll just over 900 students in grades nine and 10 in its inaugural class, with 150 students on a wait list. All were selected through a lottery. In two years, the school will be at full capacity in grades nine through 12.
âItâs hard to believe that just a few short years ago this was just an idea up in the clouds,â said Principal Tim Duncan. âItâs been quite a pleasure to be entrusted with such an amazing project that is going to benefit so many.ââ

RICHMOND, Ind. Wayne County high schools didn t have proms in 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted the final few months of the school year.
Last year s seniors were deprived of the traditional dance and many other pre-graduation celebrations, and the Class of 2021 has endured even more gaps of that sort during an entire school year unlike any other.
But while some local high schools once again won t host proms due to health and safety concerns, others have approved alternative gatherings in effort to give seniors as exciting a finale as possible while still maintaining a healthy environment.
