It was a day of ululations for Buffalo City Metro mayor Princess Faku as her yellow and red graduation sash was finally placed on her shoulders. After nearly a year of court battles with the University of Fort Hare over the authentication of her qualifications, Faku received her Bachelor of Laws degree on Wednesday morning.
Buffalo City Metro mayor Princess Faku says the suspension of her graduation by the University of Fort Hare in 2023 was a deliberate attempt by the institution to ruin her political career, resulting in severe reputational damage. The suspension has since been lifted by the university amid a court battle, which she won earlier in 2024.
Despite grand promises by Buffalo City Metro mayor Princess Faku that the long-delayed Mdantsane NU2 pool would be completed during her first 100 days in office, no work has been done on the project since she took over a year ago. In fact, according to the main contractor on the multimillion-rand project, the NLG Group, the last day of work done on the promised state-of-the-art pool precinct was in July 2022, about eight months before she took over as the city’s executive mayor.
The Buffalo City Metro has filled nearly 7,000 potholes in five months, mayor Princess Faku said on Monday.In September, Faku launched Operation Valazonke Programme a drive aimed at fixing potholes across the metro.
