Ward councillor Nwabisa Mcwabeni condemned protest action by residents of Nompumelelo in Beacon Bay on Friday, alleging that efforts to bring services to the community had been “sabotaged”. A crowd of about 100 protesters took to the streets early on Friday morning, placing four flaming barricades across the Bonza Bay Road near the entrance to the township.
An East London attorney charged with stealing Road Accident Fund money from his clients caused drama at the East London magistrate’s court on Monday when he fired his lawyer moments before the legal representative was to starting questioning witnesses. Manfred Chinamasa, who is accused of stealing more than R5m of RAF funds from his clients, instead opted to represent himself.

The affluent neighbourhood of Beacon Bay was brought to a standstill on Tuesday afternoon when a high-speed chase turned into a shootout and a collision near the onramp to the N2.The accident happened at high speed as private security guards chased a vehicle they believed was stolen from a farm in Mooiplaas.The fleeing vehicle smashed into a taxi, injuring 16 passengers.
