New Delhi, Oct 16 (PTI) The Centre has accepted the resignation of International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) Director K S James and revoked his suspension for alleged irregularities during his tenure, the health ministry said.
The Congress party has accused the Modi government of silencing independent voices after the reported revocation of the suspension of IIPS Director K S James. The government allegedly suspended James for collecting data that was inconvenient to them. Although the suspension has been revoked and James resignation accepted, the Congress party sees it as a face-saving move by the government.
The Indian health ministry has accepted the resignation of International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) Director, K S James, and revoked his suspension. James was suspended in July following allegations of irregularities in appointments and compliance with reservation rosters. The ministry launched an investigation and found irregularities in 11 out of 35 complaints received. The suspension was lifted due to "material changes in circumstances". James resignation, submitted in August, was also accepted.
IIPS director KS James has been suspended to ensure a fair probe into the alleged irregularities in the appointments and recruitment of faculty, and compliance with reservation rosters, the Union health ministry said while asserting that the move should not be seen as a punishment.
