The duo bike, row, and rappel â which, it turns out, is not Graham s idea of fun.
Sam and Graham meet up with members of well-known clans, beginning with the MacLeods and MacDonalds. Convening at the Isle of Skyeâs Trumpan Church, they listen to Ian MacLeod and John MacDonald who detail the history behind a brutal feud between their clans.
Both clans have Viking origins, and they would often fight about who had the more heroic or powerful founder. One day, the MacLeods planned to smoke the MacDonalds out of their area by setting fire in a tunnel, but the action ultimately backfired when the men were killed. In retaliation, the MacDonalds set fire to the Trumpan Church, killing several of the MacLeods.

Dennis Through the Ages THE Beano’s most popular character turns 70 today. Dennis the Menace first appeared in the comic in issue 452, dated March 17, 1951. Always dressed in his distinctive red and black striped jumper (except for his earliest apperaances) and accompanied by his faithful canine sidekick Gnasher, spiky-haired Dennis – “the world’s wildest boy” – was the first of the naughty kids strips that revitalised British comics in the 1950s. After Dennis came The Bash Street Kids, Minnie the Minx, Beryl the Peril and Roger the Dodger. But Dennis remains the longest-running strip in the Beano and one of the most popular British comic book characters, with his own TV show. He even had a fan club that numbered more than a million members at one point (including Mark Hammill of Star Wars fame).

Seventy years ago, on 17 March 1951, Dennis the Menace first strolled on to the pages of the Beano. The iconic red and black jumper of today was eschewed for a shirt and tie, and his faithful pooch Gnasher was nowhere to be seen, but – as he defied an order to “keep off the grass” – Dennis was as much of a menace then as he is today.
