VICTOR â Lynnville-Sully s girls basketball team got off to a slow start on the road against HLV on Friday night, but a big night by the bench helped the Hawks to a 53-30 victory during South Iowa Cedar League play.
The Hawks outscored HLV 18-9 in bench points and L-S turned 34 HLV turnovers into 28 points. It took us a little bit to get going tonight, but once we got it rolling I thought our defense and offense were good, L-S girls head coach Jerry Hulsing said. We ran the floor well in the second half.
Cally Gibbs led the Hawks (7-1 overall, 3-1 in the SICL) with 15 points and six rebounds, while Meleisha Vos added 11 points and nine rebounds off the bench.

SULLY â Lynnville-Sully s girls basketball team lost its first game of the season on Tuesday night despite leading by six at halftime.
The Class 1A No. 11 Hawks shot 32 percent from the floor, made 6-of-19 from 3-point range and connected on 7-of-13 from the free-throw line in a 56-47 home loss to North Mahaska during South Iowa Cedar League play.
North Mahaska was able to rally in part because of a 16-5 advantage in second-chance points. The difference in the game was our lack of rebounding and our rotation and communication were not there on defense, L-S girls head coach Jerry Hulsing said. We stopped attacking on offense in the second half.
