Representative Ayanna Pressley on Thursday joined the ranks of US politicians denouncing Israel for attacks against Palestinians, and criticizing the US for sending the country billions of dollars in aid.
Eastern Kentucky Universityâs Diversity Cabinet in the Student Government Association hosted a panel that was centered around diversity, equity and inclusion on April 7.Â
It was named after Dr. Sheila Pressley, who passed in January of 2020 at the age of 53. Dr. Pressley made a lasting impact at Eastern, as she was the dean of health sciences and always made an effort to push for diversity in all facets on campus, especially in upper management.Â
The event was hosted by SGA director of diversity Britany Bowens. It was opened by Bowens introducing student body president Eyouel G. Mekonnen as he talked about the fight for diversity everywhere. Mekonnen said, âWhat matters most is what happens after this conversation. What matters in significance is what is actionable.â
Want to see up to $50,000 of your federal
student debt canceled?
âSend a note to President Biden,â suggests Senator Elizabeth Warren.
In a virtual town hall with constituents Wednesday evening, Warren exhorted supporters to take the student debt issue, and other progressive causes, directly to the new occupant of the White House. So far, Biden has proved unconvinced by a pitch from Warren and others to immediately cancel a big chunk of federal student loan debt for the roughly 44 million Americans who carry it. Instead, Biden has called on Congress to pass legislation forgiving up to $10,000 in student debt per borrower.
