The Posen Community Schools school resource officer recently safely tracked down a runaway teen.
Officer Ryan Frost, a Presque Isle County Sheriff’s Office deputy, acting on tips from as far away as Texas, tracked down runaway Joe Horne, 16, of Posen, in the Saginaw area.
That happy ending on its own would be enough to make us smile.
But Frost, in announcing the successful case, offered an important message to any teens thinking about running away from home.
“Your life does matter,” Frost said. “Your voice is a powerful tool in receiving professional help and guidance.”
Frost is right. Help is always available, from police or from school or from church or from mental health professionals, and it’s important for teens to know they have safer options than running away.

Once a profession that drew stiff competition, police work has declined in popularity as a job choice, to the point that police departments are scrambling to get good candidates to fill job openings.
Where once only three or four job postings might be found on any given day, the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards website now lists pages of vacancies in police departments across the state.
The Alpena County Sheriff’s Office is currently feeling the pinch of tough-to-fill positions as it seeks to hire two deputies and two corrections officers.
