Idaho Falls-based University of Idaho researchers have verified a new process to save communities millions of dollars and speed up development of the world’s first Molten Salt Nuclear Battery (MsNB), a nuclear energy reactor to generate heat and produce electricity.
Generating energy from nuclear fuel dissolved in molten salt is known for its improved safety and efficiency, as the process does not require a solid fuel like the uranium or plutonium used in most nuclear reactors today. Research is ongoing to bring this technology to market.

BLACKFOOT – Gov. Brad Little made a stop at Premier Technology in Blackfoot on Wednesday to discuss the plan he’s introducing to the Legislature to provide funding for multiple highway and infrastructure improvement projects throughout the state.
The Sustainable Transportation Funding proposal takes $80 million in state funds to go toward these projects. This is in addition to federal funds the state receives every year.
“We have to have sustainable, long-term funding for transportation,” Little said during a news conference. “When I was putting this together, I asked the Idaho Transportation Department to go to their local engineers and determine what the most critical projects were in specific areas. The Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce has announced the ten winners of this yearâs Distinguished Under 40 Award. The award honors young professionals under the age of 40 years old âwho have gone above and beyond to accomplish great things in their careers, community, and education,â according to the Chamber. All recipients are from eastern Idaho. The organization has been honoring young people with this award for more than 20 years.
âItâs an amazing award that the Chamber of Commerce gave me. I know my boss is the one who nominated me, and it just feels really good that he recognizes all the hard work that Iâm doing,â said Beth Swenson, award recipient and librarian at the Idaho Falls Public Library.
