they believe will actually benefit republicans. bill, house speaker pelosi tweeted out this photo of what she called mcconnell s graveyard in response to legislation. it goes to the senate and nothing happens. obviously some of this stuff they would never support but among them are bills like lowering prescription drug prices. the re-authorization of the violence against women act which used to be a fairly bipartisan piece of legislation. why kill those? i don t understand. if it s something that could be bipartisan and could pass. someone went to open the door, some bipartisan things, one or two republican co-sponsors, is it enough. it s easier. as long as they are not paying a price, it s easier to shut the door.
that means that they are losing everything. this will make recovery harder. sounds like once you can move, we re in the middle of it now, but it sounds like long term, one of the issues to emerge is the need for more people to have flood insurance in areas that might be hit. yeah, more flood insurance. we got to stop building the way we re building where we re billing. it s just getting worse. we re not going to build a response big enough to all of these threats. the national flood insurance program is up for re-authorization. we need to take a hard look at that program. getting people that have been flooded several times the tools to move out of these flood prone areas. the second thing is we have to take a hard look and how and where we re building. we re paying for it on the back
political fortune is now wedded, for better or worse, to mr. trump. he should separate out the pack and they have their own political enterprise that s separate. it s clear the koch organization is concerned about issues. they are concerned about trade. they are free traders. they want a more tolerant immigration policy. they are concerned about spending in the omnibus. they are concerned about re-authorization of the export/import. i was with them on two of the four issues. they are alarmed by the trade issue. i think that s motivating them. that s why they are not participating or actively participating in some of the senate races where republicans have a chance at beating democrats. the c they aren t going to endorse democrats. but they may feel taken for granted that they are expected to support the republican nominee regardless where he stands on any given issue that s important to them. they do still plan to spend $00 million in the midterms.
kathy caldwell, she s on the phone. we don t often do interviews on the phone but this is really important for people to understand. kathy, thank you for joining us. let me understand, in a place like alabama which is running out of c.h.i.p. money without this re-authorization, what does that actually mean for a family that has a child that gets their health coverage from c.h.i.p.? it will probably quite devastating news to these families that their children s coverage might end. they rely on it for all of their well child visits, for this they get sick, for hospitalizations, for their medications. many of these children will become uninsured if the c.h.i.p. program goes away and that is evidenced by prior to c.h.i.p. back in the late 90s, the uninsurance rate for children in our state was 20%. it is now 2.4%. wow. so, the problem the
name critic. but does this go back to smooth sailing? it could have an e-zpassage in the sena easy passage in the senate, although there are people who are going to fight for greater protections for americans. the bill did pass the house and went to the senate, is supported by the white house. the administration had additionally wanted a clean re-authorization, meaning there are no changes, just reup the existing law. they didn t get that. but the main thrust of the support for more restrictions was in the house, and the votes were really not expected to be in the senate. raise your hand pu rand paul says he s going to filibuster anything that doesn t have strict protections. we have to see how that s going to play out. i think it s going to pass. people believe it s going to pass. the president said he s going to sign it. the question becomes how will
