Review: Solo Worship - Danny Donnelly

Reviewed by Stephen Luff Mr Donnelly is a busy man! This CD is the first of two released in 2003 (the other being Solo Worship Vol 2 ), in addition he toured with Kenny Loggins in the States, recorded with The Kry, leads worship each week and teaches music theory. Oh, he also has another project. a new rock record with a title Be Filled in the pipeline! So what about this CD? Well, it feels as if I am eaves-dropping on a personal worship time between a man and his God- it is that intimate, filled with just under an hour of songs written by Mac Powell and Third Day ( Your Love Oh Lord ), Kate Miner and Judie Lawson ( Carry Me ), Matt Redman ( Let Everything That Has Breath Praise The Lord ) and Keith Green ( O Lord You Are Beautiful ) amongst others. There is also one self-penned song, Sweet Jesus , which sits comfortably amongst such anointed songwriters. Recording was live in David Miner s living room (David is co-producer with Danny), with just a guitar on all tracks accept

Review: GDWT - Eikon, Clarke - DualDisc

Reviewed by Paul Ewbank G.D.W.T. is a collaboration between Californian worship singers Darren & Jessie Clarke and London-based electronic duo Eikon. The EP provides an interesting new look at some of the Clarke s best moments and serves to introduce Eikon s inventive modern electronica to a wider audience. The set opens with the song that inspired the collaboration: Eikon s cover of the worship classic I Love Your Presence . The song is given a polished electronic makeover with shimmering keyboards ornamenting the verses and a hushed, reverent chorus that rises and falls like gentle waves. The contemporary sound and David Hendra s soaring vocal performance make this a worthy addition to any chilled out worship playlist. The remaining tracks - three covers from Clarke s Hand Of God and one original - are perfectly decent but fail to live up to this initial standout. The main reason is that Darren Clarke s raw, folksy voice doesn t suit this type of music. Fans of Darren and Jes

Review: My Corner Of Heaven - Sarah Kelly

Reviewed by Tony Cummings Illinois-based Sarah has long been a favourite with Cross Rhythms radio listeners from the first notes of the Alanis Morissette-tinged opener Unescapable with its frank admission I tried too hard/Pocketful of pride it is clear that Sarah has lost none of her ways with a confessional rock song. But as her followers will know, Sarah can handle a wide range of styles and the title track with its nagging piano riff soon gives way to crunching guitars over which she intones impressively while there s a surprise dance remix of her Take Me Away oldie from 2004 and You Know Me is a hauntingly tuneful admission that God knows us from the inside out. There is also a soulful ballad Just As You Please to complete My Corner Of Heaven s celebration of musical versatility and songwriting craft.

Review: Broken Temples (Deluxe Version) - Kevin Max

Reviewed by Tony Cummings As we all know, Kevin Max Smith is one of Christendom s true eclectics, who down the years has drawn us in with everything from electronica to spoken word poetry, though often returning to his British pop and rock influences. On this album he takes in everything from the Beatles to Depeche Mode while his current CR radio hit Lay Down Your Weapons My Friend has more than a bit of Queen about it. Broken Temples features some songs actually intended for Audio Adrenaline before Kevin s departure from the band while Freak Flag could easily have fitted onto a Supernatural -era dc Talk album. What is clear is that down the years this most versatile of creative spirits has lost none of his abilities to write memorable songs, be it the funk bass-driven Clear or the power pop Desperate Heart while White Horse features lyrics about Christ s return on such an animal. Another outstanding cut is the electronic sci-fi Going Clear (actually a Derek Webb remi
