In a stunning turn of events, the father of a 17-year-old wrestler, who had accused Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the outgoing chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), of sexual harassment, made a complete U-turn on Wednesday. He said that they had initially leveled the serious charges in a state of anger after their daughter allegedly faced discrimination by the WFI.
The sexual harassment case against WFI chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan has not been withdrawn, according to the father of the accuser. Reports that the POSCO case against Bhushan had been withdrawn were fake.
The FIRs registered following a Supreme Court order have charged Singh under various IPC sections including assaulting a woman to outrage her modesty (Section 354), sexual harassment (354 A), stalking (354 D) that are punishable with jail terms of two-three years.
In a tweet, Sibal said, "Brij Bhushan Singh: Does application of POCSO and immediate arrest after 164 statements apply to all accused other than Brij Bhushan because he: 1) Belongs to BJP 2) iconic women wrestlers don't matter; votes matter! 3) Government doesn't care.
A 51-year-old man was convicted and sentenced to 20 years' rigorous imprisonment by the Mahila Court in Erode on Wednesday for sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl.
