Oregon City asks Metro to keep waste facility in town
Clackamas County officials also have balked at using a new site for garbage and recycling.
Oregon City city commissioners don t want Metro to move a waste-transfer facility in Oregon City to a proposed 26-acre parcel on the north bank of the Clackamas River to alleviate capacity concerns.
During the previous week, Clackamas County leaders showed little enthusiasmfor the proposal to use the new site as a garbage and recycling facility.
Oregon City Commission President Rocky Smith said he understands Metro s need to expand its recycling programs, but asked that current services remain in the city.

The head of Multnomah County s government on Friday, March 5, said the county is positioned to rebound from the coronavirus pandemic while deploying its public health division to tackle other issues as well.
Chair Deborah Kafoury provided a virtual version of the yearly State of the County address, hosted by City Club of Portland, which was broken into different parts, including guest videos prepared by her four fellow commissioners as well as a Q-and-A with Kafoury s close ally and county-funded contractor, Central City Concern president and CEO Dr. Rachel Solotaroff.

Proposed bills would restrict towing sports, including in the popular Newberg Pool section of the river
Oregon House Bill 2555 is directly tied to a 20-mile stretch of the Willamette River, but if passed, its ripple effects could be felt as far as Hagg Lake in rural Washington County.
The proposed legislation is aimed at the Newberg Pool and would restrict towing people on wakeboards, wake surfers and inner tubes to name a few to boats not exceeding 4,000 pounds.
The Newberg Pool is the part of the Willamette River roughly between Newberg and Willamette Falls in Oregon City. It is a popular place for area boaters.

Focusing primarily on the positives in a year that saw staff turnover, legal controversy and unprecedented challenges from a governing standpoint, the city of Newberg released its 2020 annual report on Feb. 19. The report was delivered alongside Mayor Rick Rogers state of the city address posted to various social media platforms.
Rogers also delivered the state of the city address online via the Newberg City Club s monthly forum. Every town and city, large and small in Oregon and throughout the world, can reflect on the year that was, Rogers wrote in a statement at the top of the report. In most of our lifetimes, there has not been a year quite like 2020. The challenges faced by our businesses, schools, churches and, yes, city government have been deep and profound.
