Alice White wins North Port special election for District 1 seat

Joseph Garren received 30% of the vote and Walt Grzenikowski about 10%.  “I’m ecstatic that I won, but to win by such a pretty good margin, I’m ecstatic over that – over the top,” White said, shortly after learning the results of the race. “Even up until I went home today at 6:30 p.m., I was not sure how this was going to turn out; it’s hard to gauge people when you talk to them or when you see them.  “I’m so thrilled to be able to do this for the city I’ve lived I for over 30 years, and to serve people in a different capacity,” she added. “I’m still going to do what I love to do, which is work with people all the time.”

North Port launches survey to gauge budget goals for 2021-22

Sarasota Herald-Tribune NORTH PORT – The city of North Port has started an online survey to receive feedback from city residents as it heads into budget season. The City Commission will host its first public discussions of budget development at a special meeting set for March 29. The survey, which can be found at bit.ly/3bdQSme, is due by March 5. The six-page survey is anonymous, though it does open with a question about how long the respondent has lived in the city. It’s possible to weigh in on how well the city is meeting its stated goals and whether the projected $42 million widening of Price Boulevard should be subject to a referendum.

While leads in campaign fundraising for North Port commission seat

NORTH PORT – Financial disclosure forms through Feb. 11 show that Alice White has easily outpaced the two other candidates for North Port City Commission District 1, with $9,534 raised, including $6,829.26 in an active January. Meanwhile, Joseph Garren raised $6,790 through Feb. 11, with $4,190 coming in early February and $2,000 in January. Walt Grzenikowski raised $1,990 through that time frame, with $1,350 of that coming since Feb. 1; including a $1,000 check from Mattamy Homes. As of Feb. 11, he had spent $913.22. The fundraising of White, fresh off of her unsuccessful run at Sarasota County Commission, reflects her 30 years of residency in the city, as well as interest from donors throughout Sarasota County.
