NORTH PORT – Early voting for the March 9 North Port special city election and the Holiday Park Park and Recreation District election will begin Monday, March 1, and continue through Saturday, March 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.
During early voting, voters residing in the city of North Port and the Holiday Park district will be able to cast their ballots at the Supervisor of Elections Office in Biscayne Plaza at 13640 Tamiami Trail, North Port.
Joseph Garren, Walt Grzenikowski and Alice White are seeking the seat.
Florida law requires voters to present a current valid photo and signature identification before voting. Acceptable IDs include a Florida driver’s license or ID card issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, U.S. Passport, debit or credit card, or a variety of other ID cards that have a photo.
NORTH PORT – Financial disclosure forms through Feb. 11 show that Alice White has easily outpaced the two other candidates for North Port City Commission District 1, with $9,534 raised, including $6,829.26 in an active January.
Meanwhile, Joseph Garren raised $6,790 through Feb. 11, with $4,190 coming in early February and $2,000 in January.
Walt Grzenikowski raised $1,990 through that time frame, with $1,350 of that coming since Feb. 1; including a $1,000 check from Mattamy Homes.
As of Feb. 11, he had spent $913.22.
The fundraising of White, fresh off of her unsuccessful run at Sarasota County Commission, reflects her 30 years of residency in the city, as well as interest from donors throughout Sarasota County.
NORTH PORT The three candidates seeking the vacant District 1 City Commission seat in the March 9 special election found more common ground than difference during a Zoom forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of Sarasota County.
The candidates, Joseph Garren, Walt Grzenikowski and Alice White, all spoke of the need to bring in higher-paying jobs and business and to ease the tax burden on city homeowners.
White, a 30-year resident, said she had concerns about the original annexations in the early 2000s and was among several who foresaw problems fostering unity as new residents moved in.
Specifically, she said the city would “really struggle to have that area feel they’re a part of what I would call North Port proper, because they’re three miles up the highway.”
