A retired Inquirer top editor has deplored the PDI management’s decision to settle what he described was an untenable libel case filed by a radio/TV personality in connection with the newspaper’s investigative report on the P10-billion pork scam. “It seems the PDI management got suckered into accepting a compromise deal that is demeaning to the brand and lopsidedly favorable to Melo del Prado, a broadcaster of dzBB Radio-TV GMA Network,” former Executive Editor Jose Ma. Napoles camp to file charges vs 3 Sandiganbayan justices By JOAHNA LEI CASILAO, GMA News Published February 6, 2021 7:39pm The camp of Janet Lim Napoles on Saturday said they would file charges against three justices of the anti-graft court after they haphazardly convicted Napoles of graft and malversation in connection with the P10-billion pork barrel scam. Rony Garay, Napoles’ lawyer, said they were preparing appropriate charges against Justice Geraldine Faith Econg, Justice Reynaldo dela Cruz, and Justice Edgardgo Caldona “for gross ignorance of the law, manifest partiality, and extreme bias.” In a 103-page decision, the Sandiganbyan on Friday ruled that Napoles, former Cagayan de Oro representative Constantino Jaraula and three others had pocketed P19.2 million from a lawmaker s pork barrel budget and were thus guilty of three counts of graft and three counts of malversation.

Gigi Reyes cries illegal detention, turns to Supreme Court for her release Jan 15, 2021 12:28 PM PHT Gigi Reyes, the former chief of staff of ex-senator Juan Ponce Enrile, asked the Supreme Court to have her released, arguing that the trial for her alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam has been unreasonably delayed. Reyes filed a petition for habeas corpus, saying that her right to a speedy trial has been violated for her detention from July 9, 2014. In filing the petition, Reyes and her lawyers are contending that she has been illegally detained. Citing Section 14, Article III of the Constitution, Reyes said in her petition that no person shall be held to answer for a criminal offense without due process of law and that, that person is entitled, among others, to have a speedy, impartial, and public trial.
