interagency checks and everything, and at that point, we closed our assessment. we ve heard so many stories from people who were inside that airport, none maybe luckier than this, where a laptop and a backpack may have saved the life of one shooting survivor. he spoke to my colleague, anderson cooper about his terrifying experience inside that airport terminal. listen. caller: i dropped to the ground. i heard more of the popping sound. and then while i m on the floor, i m seeing people in front of me get hit. you actually saw that. caller: i saw that. it was a man, probably 10 feet away from me that was shot in the head, and his wife collapsed on top of him. and was he shot when he was standing up? or was he on the floor as well? caller: we were all on the floor. so the shooter just went over
everybody down. then i knew something was going to happen. at this point you dropped down? correct. so all of us that were waiting for our baggage, we hit the floor. how far away was the man who yelled that and did you see the shooter at all? i saw the shooter. i didn t see the man that was yelling. i was at the end of it. most of p the people and the victims, too, were by the beginning where the luggage was. but just moments before i decided to move away from the crowd toward the end of the conveyor belt. so i heard the man nearby and i didn t see the shooter until a couple of moments after. so what happened? you dropped to the ground. then what? i dropped to the ground. i heard more of the popping sound. and then while i m on the floor at my level and seeing people getting hit.

give me everything i won t kill nothing. everything i won t kill nothing! i didn t think nothing of it until he pulled out the gun and then he fired that one shot. then that first shot was like a popping sound. i was thinking maybe he had blanks. that s when i i stepped back from the register. that s when i was concerned about what he was doing. and bam. [ gunshot ] i hit the ground. then he shot another time. after the gunman fires a third shot at the wall, he leaves empty handed. donald is wounded and struggling on the floor behind the counter. it hit me in the arm, my left arm and it hit me in the left side. and then it went out my back through the wall. were you shot? customers in the store are terrified and stunned. don t move him. don t move him. one of them calls 911. he had a mask on.
khalifa, right across from the water fountain where they have a big water fountain spectacular, and many of the restaurants and other buildings are surrounded it. the dubai mall is not connected to the address hotel. it s separate. jacqueline, you talked about hearing an explosion? can you tell us more about that? yes, you heard like a loud pop. but people really didn t know what was going on. because where i was sitting, you couldn t really see the building. you kind of had to step out a little. and then turn back to see. and then you were seeing the whole building on fire. so you heard something but a lot of people didn t know. i personally thought maybe they started the fireworks show or, you know, to test it or something. we really didn t know until somebody started screaming. they didn t scream fire because they screamed something else. so everybody there kind of turned around. we were a little bit confused.
