The Sunday Escape returns for another trip through the best of the week’s new music, carefully curated by Paul and Carolyn (together with whatever other records they’ve been listening to). For new stuff, it’s another fairly muted week for new albums with only Bar Italia’s debut looking like a contender for album of the week. There are loads of new singles though, with brand new tracks from Spoon, binki, Sparks, Lande Hekt, Girl Ray, WITCH, Andrew Hung, and Dream Wife, to name but a few. Along with all that, David Costello, the Irish Consul General, will be joining the Pop Fugitives in the studio to choose a few records (and hopefully bring O biscuits and maybe even crisps). There’s coverage of the long-awaited reissue of a classic indie pop album from Heavenly, there’ll be a rather unusual cover of a rap song with all the rap taken out, and Veruca Salt sweeps the nation. Plus the usual chat, a new Super Clever Music Mystery Quiz, and. more!
Paul and Carolyn return for another instalment of the Sunday Escape this, which means the latest foray into the best in music. This week that includes new tracks from Conchúr White, bar italia, Miles Kane, Sarah Kinsley, BC Camplight, and CMAT, along with the debut single from The Last Dinner Party plus music from the eagerly awaited new album from Everything But The Girl. There’s also a report from Saturday’s Record Store Day. Joining the Pop Fugitives in the studio is Hong Kong singer-songwriter Joya, who ll be talking about her influences as well as picking a few songs to play. All the usual features return too including another track by a possibly overlooked band, a cover version, a new Super Clever Music Mystery Quiz and of course. reasonable biscuits.
James Ross will be sitting in for our intrepid Fugitives this Sunday, as they ll be having a rest after perforning at Hong Kong s favourite music festival on Satuday afternoon. Talking of Clockenflap, James will be interviewing some special guests from the scene, as well as spinning his usual brand of great chart hits and classic gold. Plus. NO biscuits!
Every Sunday morning from 9am-1pm. only on Radio 3
The Pop Fugitives return in a week quiet for new album releases but jam packed with new singles. That means Paul and Carolyn will be playing new music from Steve Mason, The Lathums, Grandmas House, Blondshell, Gretel Hänlyn, English Teacher and loads more. King Tuff and The Tubs compete for the album of the week spot and of course there’ll be plenty of older music too.
That includes tracks from Led Zeppelin and The Three Johns as part of the usual features plus there’s a brand new Super Clever Music Mystery Quiz along with some biscuits. Tune in on Sunday from 9am to 1pm.
It’s the first Sunday Escape of 2023, and Paul and Carolyn begin the New Year by looking back at their favourite songs and albums of 2022. For this special show, the usual features take a backseat as the Pop Fugitives play all of their picks of the best tracks of the year gone by, in a very rough order, as well as their highlights (and perhaps some lowlights) of the year in music. Expect some Father John Misty and Blossoms, but who will take the coveted songs and albums of the year spots? Will it be Wet Leg or Arctic Monkeys, or could it be Liam Gallagher, or Mitski? What relatively obscure new bands soared to great heights over the course of the year?
Tune in from 9am to 1pm to find out!
