The Madras High Court has sentenced Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi and his wife, Visalatchi to three years of simple imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case.
DMK Minister K Ponmudy has been disqualified as an MLA by the Madras High Court. The court's ruling on his criminal misconduct and imprisonment has triggered his disqualification under section 8(1) of the Representation of the People Act.
The case centres around allegations that Ponmudy and his wife amassed assets worth Rs 1.79 crore between April 2006 and March 2010 during his tenure as Mines and Minerals minister.
