to extraordinary women with whom i ve served in congress, january sh jan schakowsky of illinois has introduced a proposal called medicare for america that ensures if you have employer-based insurance, and you like it, you keep it. your doctors, your network, what works for you right now. if you don t have insurance or you don t like the insurance you already have, you enroll in medicare. so charlie sykes, that does sound as though he is talking a little bit more specifically than he had been. it took him a couple of days, it seemed, to get his answer on the medicare for all question fully nailed down. how much more does he need to do that, how much is there a demand for these policy specifics? as we know, donald trump won with some broad policy ideas, i suppose, but not a lot of specifics. i think that s exactly the point. there s a long time for him to fill in all the blanks. remember, donald trump is sitting in the oval office right now not exactly a policy wonk. it is legitimate
level. i really don t. the president is incredibly popular. doesn t mean that people like former governor weld of massachusetts won t do it, but it s going to be an incredible uphill climb. i don t know that this will make that much of a difference. what i do know and i ve talked to somebody this morning about this who s who s getting close with paul ryan, is that he you re right, there s no love lost between the two. there never was. but what he was trying to say and maybe it didn t come across that way in this speech, is that he s a policy wonk. and he wants to be he wants elections to be more about policy and less about personality. 2016 was somewhat about policy, but it was a lot about personality. and that s what he was trying to get across. and i wouldn t be surprised if paul ryan goes back into his, you know, hermit kingdom right now, and doesn t come back out because because he s already somebody who is a foil for president trump, i mean, he went after him in the in t
side right now? who has the advantage right at this moment? the president said in his state of the union address, which was not unwise, that he wants to run against socialism. that s the way he s framed it. now that the democratic party it s interesting because part of the reason i think hillary clinton didn t do as well as she should have done is because she actually is a policy wonk. she understands policy. bernie throws out these policies that are just they re not realistic. something more aspirational may they don t add up. but i don t think that s going to happen. we ran against ethanol with ted cruz in iowa and won iowa. amy klobuchar is now saying against the progressive left that it s unrealistic that everybody just can get their college paid for and medicare for all is somehow not going to have a consequence, which will be higher taxes. as you know, you worked on the 2016 campaign for ted cruz,
