areas which is he vulnerable. the president says his theme will be ending the politics of resistance which is not great news. we already have a list of four lawmakers who are not attending. congressman steve cohen. congressman hank johnson, john lewis again not going and congressman blume nawrp of oregon not going. four items. i think that number will probably grow. this just shows you they want to hear what the president has to stay about the state of our union. let s take the border fight, for example. democrats were for the border. they were for the border wall before back in 2006. they never had to explain what their pivot is hey because president trump wants this, i don t want it. despite them being for before. this has to do with the president. this is more of an anti trump stance than actually a policy stance. brian: building on what you said the president can show and tell the world who might not be paying attention to it like we are i m trying to cut a deal. and they are no
mollie, your thoughts? get 10,000 people this month and 10,000 people next month and pretty soon you are talking about real numbers. this caravan has gotten a lot of news. it s a larger issue of massive people amassing at the people wanting to come in exploiting loopholes in our immigration law. i think americans really deserve the chance to have immigration laws that make sense that are actually enforced that they get a say in who is a citizen and who has legal status. that is not what is happening with our system right now. we just keep fumbling from one border crisis to the next without resolving the larger issue. bret: you know, the question is, mara, politically, how this plays. obviously on a political stance, th policy stance the t has campaigned on this. he has talked about it forever. he has said it s going to be his policy. politically, it really didn t pan out as much, as well across the borders as many on the republican side were thinking it would. no. i mean it s po
wild. here s what he said. we re looking at the economy, looking at a very strong economy. and we re adjusting the policy stance. we ve been doing it gstaraduall increasing rates. i kind of think neutral is to 3%. so after many years of accommodative policy which i have supported strongly because inflation is now up at 2%, it is time to readjust the policy stance at least to neutral. let s see how the economy is performing. and then we might have to do a little bit more after that. ron, what do you make of that? i think that is a perfect explanation. the president and others said that the fed was crazy to bring interest rates down to zero for so long, creating a bubble in the stock market. now the president is complaining that the fed is raising rates and touting a very strong economy at the same time. so there is a lot of cognitive dissonance there. this is what the fed should be doing.
results? if you look at his rhetoric, if you look at some of the things his administration has done, if you look at some of the policy stance he has taken like what? whether it s voter suppression. voter suppression? absolutely. where are you getting that? whether he s called mexicans rapists and thugs, this president has never been most of it is misstated. you can t do that on this show. and he campaigned on the issue that he wanted to undo everything barack obama had done. and so you can say what you want. listen, i m not here to you do what you want. you giving us a speech. speeches don t work on cable television. bumper sticker mentality. pastor moody, go ahead. yeah, i think one of the
house, not necessarily regret over the president s policy stance. bob costa live from the washington post. it s always great having you on the show. thank you. we will see you later on this week on your show. i want to ask shawna to stick around. we re look live at that leadership news conference inside capitol hill. in about five minutes we expect house speaker paul ryan to take questions. we expect many of them to focus conwhat is now becoming a crisis at the border. as this is all happening, you have governors in both red and blue states doing what they can to try to fight back against this policy. andrew cuomo of new york saying he s going to sue the trump administration for, quote, violating the constitutional rights of immigrant kmirn and their families. you have govern nrs in eight states announcing they re going to take their national guard troops back from the border or stop their deployment all together. and in a letter to leaders in congress, colorado s democratic govern
