New Delhi [India], December 18 (ANI): Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla held a meeting via video conferencing with West Bengal s Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay and Director General of Police Virendra on Friday evening.
The meeting started after a delay of close to one hour. The top officials of West Bengal had conveyed their inability to travel to the national capital.
The officials were called by the Home Ministry on December 14 after receiving a report on December 11 from West Bengal Governor on the law and order situation in the state. (ANI)

KOLKATA: Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla held a meeting with Chief Secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay and Director General of Police Virendra on Friday evening through a video conference at the state secretariat.
Bhalla gave a nod to discuss the state’s law and order situation through video conference after Banopadhyay, in response to the Union Home secretary’s second letter asking the two officials to visit Delhi on Friday, said he would not be able to fly due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Bandopadhyay had requested Bhalla to hold the meeting through video conference, a practice followed on several occasions during the Covid-19 pandemic.
NEW DELHI: Mamata Banerjee, who is gearing up for a big showdown with a determined BJP in the assembly elections next year, is battling challenges on several fronts.
The Trinamool chief, who has seen the exodus of several key leaders in the run up to the elections, lost another party MLA today. But this is not the only challenge that she faces. The Union home ministry is asking her government some tough questions on the law and order situation in the state.
Also, there are strong runours that some heavyweights who have left the Trinamool will join the BJP in the presence of Amit Shah, who will in Bengal over the weekend.
