Overnight a raging fire ripped through a building under construction in chelsea. Ilana gold is live at west 17th street with the latest. Reporter chris, firefighters are keeping a close eye on this building. They have this entire area blocked off because they question if its going to collapse. Take a look at the scene. You can see right now, crews are dousing it with water and you can see how charred this building is on the top levels. Right now, the department of buildings is also out here looking at the structure to see if its a danger to the public. Witnesses in chelsea recorded the fire on west 17th street between 7th and 8th avenues at 3 00 this morning. The flames spread fast as they shot up 0 feet from shot up 20 feet from the building. The flames kicked up into high gear. Reporter chopper 2 flew over the scene where crews battled the flames for four hours.
