GATLINBURG â The city is looking to improve its traffic signalization and considered a proposal during budget discussions this week.
City manager Cindy Cameron Ogle presented a memo from Police Chief Randy Brackins about a traffic light signalization system.
The system would allow for traffic counting, synchronization system, and computerization of all signals on Parkway, River Road and Hwy. 321.
âTwelve lights will be computerized,â Ogle said.
The total cost would be $350,000.
That includes $262,000 for traffic camera detection; $45,000 for fiber optic connection; $275 for cellular connection; $27,925 for signal controllers with cabinets; $4,800 for programming and coordination data; and $10,000 for software and operating computer.
This system is separate from a traffic study the city has planned, but Ogle said the study will likely recommend such a system.
