7-year-old girl shot and critically wounded in Northeast DC

It happened just before 7 p.m. in 3500 block of Jay Street. The girl was shot in the chest while riding a scooter outside an apartment complex with family members, according to Executive Assistant Chief of Police Ashan M. Benedict during a news conference. She suffered a gun shot wound and was transported by members of D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services to a hospital for life-threatening injuries, where she remains in critical condition. D.C. police said the child is the only known victim and the shooting “appears to be random, but the investigation is ongoing.” Police detectives said they are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating a white sedan. The vehicle “of interest” is tied to the Assault with Intent to Kill (Gun) offense.

Police say a domestic dispute ended in a deadly triple shooting and fire in Southeast D.C. Monday night. On Friday, the suspect was arrested and charged with two counts of murder. The Metropolitan Police Department announced early Friday that 32-year-old Keanan Christopher Turner of Forestville, Maryland, had been named as a suspect in the crimes, and an arrest warrant was issued by the D.C. Superior Court. Members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, the United States Marshals Special Operations Group and the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Turner later that day. On Saturday, D.C. Police said Turner was charged with two counts of first-degree murder while armed (premeditated) and assault with intent to kill while armed.
