The club made sure to stay open the nights of shootings, making it so we would have a caring and dependable place to go when it wasnt safe to go home. The club gave me a place where i could be my authentic self. The club showed me the power of a good education and encouraged me to go into private school. It wasnt easy. I found my sense of self slipping away as i switched between environments, but i could always find myself back at the club, a place i didnt have to alter who i was.
