Hansen more than 90 tries to record three poems for this year’s Poetry Out Loud national competition. Hansen is more accustomed to live performance: the tension-filled air backstage, the endless weeks of practice followed by the adrenaline rush of a single show and that wave of applause. But this year, the event is virtual — which means the stage was shifted to Hansen’s bedroom. And the only live audience member was herself, staring back from her iPhone camera.

Guam student to compete in 2021 Poetry Out Loud national finals Pacific Daily News In May, Tristha Garcia, a junior at Saint Paul Christian School, will represent Guam in the Poetry Out Loud National Finals, competing for a chance to win $20,000.  According to a news release, this is the first year Guam has participated in Poetry Out Loud, a national program that encourages the study of poetry by offering free materials and a recitation competition for high school students. Garcia is one of 55 students competing. Each student will submit videos of their poetry recitations, and judges will score based on expertise and performance.
