In May, Tristha Garcia, a junior at Saint Paul Christian School, will represent Guam in the Poetry Out Loud National Finals, competing for a chance to win $20,000.
According to a news release, this is the first year Guam has participated in Poetry Out Loud, a national program that encourages the study of poetry by offering free materials and a recitation competition for high school students.
Garcia is one of 55 students competing. Each student will submit videos of their poetry recitations, and judges will score based on expertise and performance.
