Vivienne Kelly speaks with both SCA’s
Grant Blackley and ARN’s
Ciaran Davis to see if LiSTNR could change the game.
I first heard rumblings of SCA launching LiSTNR in January.
Rumour was SCA was ditching its relationship with the US-based PodcastOne in favour of its own digital audio brand, complete with a new brand and identity – in this case LiSTNR, a seemingly early-2000s branding decision complete with a mix of upper and lower-case letters and a missing vowel. My exact enquiry was:
“I’ve heard murmurs PodcastOne Australia could be set to rebrand to Listnr (my spelling could be wrong, my understanding is it’s Listener, but missing some vowels).”
SCA promotes digital audio execs Grant Tothill & Chris Johnson
Following the launch of its new LiSTNR app last week, broadcaster Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) has promoted Grant Tothill and Chris Johnson to new roles within the business.
Tothill is now general manager of digital audio, in addition to head of SCA Podcasting, while Johnson takes on the newly created head of digital and innovation role.
Johnson will continue to oversee the Digital Leadership Team and manage the roadmap of SCA’s core digital products including LiSTNR, according to a statement.
He will also now be responsible for establishing and managing SCA’s local and international digital partnerships, and will drive internal digital knowledge, collaboration and innovation to ensure SCA stays ahead of emerging trends and opportunities in the digital audio space.
