We start in washington where in the next few hours President Trump is due to meet chinas chief negotiator vice premier liu he to try and negotiate an end to the trade war that has rattled the global economy. Or at least, to stop it escalating any further. The us and china have threatened to hit yet more of each others goods with import taxes or tariffs starting next week. Without a deal by mid december almost all chinese goods imported into the us, well over half a trillion dollars worth a year will have been hit by punitive taxes. That would mean much higher prices for the thousands of consumer goods made in china even us brands like iphones in the run up to the key christmas period. It would also mean big taxes on the vast majority of us goods imported into china some 110 billion worth, to give you an idea of how this impacts businesses.
