Under the scheme, while states are responsible for running the bus services and making payments to the bus operators, the centre will support these bus operations by providing subsidies.
PM-eBus Sewa Scheme: The scheme will have an estimated cost of INR 57,613 crore, of which INR 20,000 crore will be provided by the central government and the remaining will be borne by the states.
The Indian government s PM-eBus Sewa scheme, which aims to provide 10,000 electric buses to 169 cities through a public-private partnership model, will be launched in the next five to six months. The e-buses will be available in cities with populations between 300,000 and 4 million, and the scheme will support bus operations for 10 years.
According to Union Minister Anurag Thakur, of the Rs 57,613 crore allocated to the scheme in PPP (public-private partnership) mode, Rs 20,000 crore will be provided by the Centre while the rest will be borne by the states.
