THREE in five people in Blackburn with Darwen have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, figures reveal. NHS data shows 67,975 people had received both jabs by July 11 – 59 per cent of those aged 16 and over, based on latest population estimates for mid-2020 from the Office for National Statistics. Of those to have received both jabs, 65,182 were aged 25 and over – 66 per cent of the age group. It means 2,793 people aged between 16 to 25 have received both doses. Meanwhile, 93,558 people in Blackburn with Darwen have received at least one dose of a vaccine – 81 per cent of those aged 16 and over. The NHS vaccine data also reveals variation in coverage for residents who are fully vaccinated between different areas across Blackburn with Darwen.

EVERY area bar two in Blackburn with Darwen has recorded an increase in coronavirus infection rate. The borough has the second highest rate of infection in the country, as the Indian variant continues to spread. According to the latest figures, the area as a whole has a rate of 187.0 cases per 100,000 people, after 280 new cases were discovered the seven days to May 18. That was up from 108.2 cases per 100,000 people over the previous seven days. Every area in the borough recorded an increase in infection rate bar two – North Darwen and Witton, Mill Hill & Hollin Bank.
