underneath what we saw filed on friday. not against the president. well, i think yes, individual number 1 is implicated so the president may be implicated in climbs. at least two that were identified on friday and others. i would say this, i think what mueller we don t know who what his report will say but if the report says anything about how russia has infiltrateed knew maria butina s plea today, she was using the nra as a means to get into the republican party. this is instructive for us. when the russians are coming and infiltrating organizations that are political organizations in order to influence people, that is instructive for us so those things regardless of what mueller s report has, those are worthy of hearings if for nothing else than to say we have to be on guard as a nation because our democracy is in
away today in response to this guilty plea in this cooperation grammy. in what way is that a concern to you right now? i said that r to a couple of reasons. first, manafort tried to essentially subborn perjury, tried to witness tamper and pled guilty to conspireing to do that, to obstruct justice by tampering with witnesses. bob mueller s team is pretty damn good and he got caught. he paid for that in his gllt plea today. i think he understands if he is less than truthful and bob mueller finds out about it he s going to pay a big price. he had to admit to the universal charges in that courthouse but also to the ten charges the jury hung on, which means that if his cooperation is less than completely truthful that not only can he be tried on those
was involved in planning terror attacks in 2011 and 2012 and that he actually bought the rifles and makings of the pipe bombs for those planned attacks. they were never carried out. the government says they got cold feet because there were some unrelated terror arrests. what the government says in the filings before this hearing is that there is a danger to the community and a flight risk and for those two reasons he should be held without bail pending the trial. so he won t enter a plea today. that will happen next month. this is strictly about his detention. sometimes in these detention hearings, which tend to be rather short, the government may say additional things that go beyond what we learned about in the criminal complaint that was unsealed last week. another area of this case, tashfeen malik, the judiciary chairman in the house, bob goodlatte, saying the terrorist s immigration file shows some vetting steps were missed. i can tell you there s a real interest in what happened
we have the sole person charged following the terror investigation going to be in court facing a judge in less than an hour after a 90-minute delay was put forth. we have 24-year-old enrique marquez, who was a friend and former neighbor of the gunman, syed rizwan farook. he is charged with buying the rifles used in their deadly attack and for plotting other earlier attacks that never took place. authorities say there is no evidence marquez was involved in the plotting of the san bernardino shootings. joining me to explain is nbc news justice correspondent pete williams. pete, talk about the expectation of what will happen for a detention hearing, correct? that s the sole purpose of this hearing is to determine whether marquez will be held in jail pending a trial. no trial date has been set, won t be for awhile. he hasn t entered a plea yet. he won t enter a plea today. that won t happen until next month. the only business today is a request from the government that he be denied bail.
