ground in afghanistan. if the answer to that question is yes, i think there are two things that president trump really needs to think hard about over the next couple days we ve releases his strategy. the first is we need to fully resource our mission in afghanistan. as you know, our combat mission ended december 31, 2014, but we still have about 8,000 troops there this in a variety capacities, mainly train, advise and assist. and then we also have a counter tr terrorism team there. so how many additional troops do we need and for what function, question number one. but question number two, what is the foreign assistance program look like? president trump announced a budget and in the words of lindsey graham, this budget would dwut our soft power capacity. if therd is serious about stability in afghanistan, we need to fully fund the state department, u.s. agency for international development. everybody agrees that the civilian prence is equally as
policing for profit. that is flooding the streets with citations for trivial offenses and raking the revenues from offenders who either pay or risk arrest. i m joined by correspondent sara sidner. i don t know if this is in reaction to the justice department and its overseers, if they actually made this happen or if the judge decided that this should happen. but effectively what s the net effect of what s going on there? i want to run down for you, ashleigh, a few of the things that were put in that order. one of those was that warrants before 2015 are withdrawn. and that s all warrants, not just ones for things like missing court or not paying a traffic fine but all warrants have been wiped out from 2015 before december 31, 2014. so warrants over five years, that s another one. those are thrown out completely and failure to appear. that was one of the big things where people would get all these fines on top of fines on top of fines and not be able to pay and
all aspects of society. as mentioned by the department of justice, there are several initiatives taking place in the city of ferguson and in the police department. they are as follows. the ferguson police department is in the process of hiring three new officers. we hope to have an update on the positions and the racial makeup of the new hires sometime in the next week. the ferguson police department has hired one correction officer since august 9 of 2014. one african-american female candidate was hired for that position out of a pool of approximately 91 applicants. the ferguson police department has also hired two assistant court clerks since august 9 of 2014. both positions were filled by african-american females from a pool of 64 applicants. all ferguson police department officers have completed mandatory diversity training as of december 31, 2014. the ferguson police department
