The owners of Jacksonville s Sun-Ray Cinema are in talks to buy the Metro Entertainment Complex and are opening a drive-in movie theater on part of the site.
The first movies will show this weekend at Sun-Ray s Foremost Drive-in, named for the Foremost Dairy that once sat on the site.
It will be the first time in more than a dozen years that Jacksonville has had a dedicated drive-in theater. Sun-Ray has been showing films at several temporary locations throughout the pandemic, playing host to at least 60 showings for about 15,000 viewers. The Playtime Drive-in on Blanding Boulevard was the last full-time drive-in in the city, closing in 2008.
